Prof. Pakhomov created firstly the classification of environment-forming activity of mammals related to pedogenesis processes; he has generalized and has quantitatively evaluated effectiveness of the major animal species in their effect on native ecosystems. It has been firstly evaluated the role of environment-forming mammalian activity under conditions of technogenic influence, particularly in the processes of soil self-purification against industrial and radioactive contamination. Regularities established became as scientific basis for implementation of measures to enhance the biodiversity in native and man-made ecosystems within the Steppe zone of Ukraine. O.Y.
